Your holiday lodge

Your fishing holiday accommodation is an ancient French farmhouse, parts of which date from before Napoleon and have a wealth of exposed beams. We extended the original house into into the old farm building to create a spacious, modern home whilst keeping most of the features that show-off its character. The lodge is well lit inside unlike many old French Farmhouses.

We have all the room needed for a large family or two families sharing. The house has four double bedrooms (two double bedded and two twin bedded), one ensuite, with a family bathroom on the first floor. The kitchen, dining room, lounge and utility room are all on the ground floor. With the option of a fold down double bed we can sleep up to TEN. There is also a cot, so call it ten and a half.

The Kitchen is fully equipped with Dishwasher, Fridgefreezer, Microwave,  Cooker, Toaster and all the kitchenalia you will need as well as a Washing Machine.

In the Lounge we have a large TV with English channels as well as a DVD player, another TV with Xbox, a Football table and plenty of seating so you can relax. There is a large selection of DVD’s  and books. The lounge is 50 square meters with two sets of French doors looking out over the rear garden having views of the rolling farmland that is typical of the area. It is quite un-matchable.

The Dining room will seat eight comfortably around the large table and has French doors out onto the rear garden with double doors through to the Lounge.

Outside at the rear is a large private garden of 4 Acres, some of which is rough pasture land but you have a large patio area with a table and seating for 10 that has exterior lights for those hot summer evenings of al fresco dining.  There is also a grassed area big enough for football or cricket. The garden at the side is a lawn that is sunny all day and ideal to top up the tan. You are welcome to any of the fruit that may be in season in the garden (Cherries, Pears, Plums, Grapes, Peaches and Apples) or the Hazel nuts, Walnuts or Chestnuts if you visit later in the year. The track way at the side the property leads to country lanes where you can walk for miles in the beautiful Charente countryside without any traffic other than the odd tractor.

Nearby amenities and things to do

We are just 12 minutes from St Junien, which has all the amenities you will need: a pleasant shopping centre with a mixture of small shops and large supermarkets including Carrefour, Aldi , Leader Price and Lidl. The Tourist Information centre is at the edge of the large free car park in the centre of town. There is a Sports Center, Cinema, restaurants and a railway station where you can go to Limoges or Angloueme should you want to visit a large city without taking a car.

Having 4 children ourselves we appreciate the difficulty of keeping the whole family happy and this is what we have tried to do. There are local attractions such as zoo and amusements but also places such as Oradour Sur Glane which no one could fail to be moved by. We have a huge range of holiday activities in this region. So whether you want to fish, do any kind of other activity, or just relax and watch the Red Squirrels, buzzards, and lots of other birds, lizards and maybe even a deer (in the early morning) then Le Marteau is the place for you.

Only 15 minutes north is the pretty town of Confolens which is situated where the River Goire joins the River Vienne and this also has a mixture of shops and restaurants.  The parking here is also free.
